Paul,

re: "Doesn't the new group of portable MP3 players address this issue? - such as the Diamond Rio ?"

We have a portable MP3 player, but most of the time you want ambient music. The function of a stereo system.

What I'm really getting at is that the "PC" is morphing into an entertainment center. Six months ago, I never thought of the PC and music in the same sentence. Suddenly, it's our favorite source of listening to music. Probably, the same thing will happen with video, in the near future.

What's lacking is a simple interface to move the functionality to the area of the home where you really want it. My office just ain't the place. The solution is probably a combination of software and networked hardware.

BTW, the 900 MP3 files, there is some crossover, but it's mostly songs my wife like, and other songs I like, the Golden Retriever will listen to anything.

John

PS The "books on tape" MP3's are also great.
