Well, yes and no. That's why I am excited about the space station. As it gets established, there should be lots of interesting developments.
My kids haven't seen man on the moon.On the other hand, they have been able to see real time color photos from Mars on the internet. I think once the station is running full tilt boogie, and the MIC allots time for other functions, it should be feasible to use it as a staging base for the Moon, for sure, and possibly Mars. If we leave from orbit, we won't need a Saturn rocket I don't suppose that I will live long enuf to see mining of the asteroids or interstellar travel, but there should be something happening on Mars. Trouble is, during the Cold War, space was a battleground, along with the Olympics and everything else, so there was incentive to go to the moon, just for the PR value. Now, it's all about the bottom line, which has compromised the success of NASA. Too bad that space exploration isn't part of the presidential campaign dialogue.
