21-Dec-1999 Hayseed Stevens Envisions Peace in Jerusalem
Nightline
Correspondent:Gillian Findlay

Stevens: My, my my.

Findlay:The call to help Israel is the same, but Hayseed Steven's vision of how it will happen is much different.

Stevens: Well I'll tell you, in a few short months you are going to hear the roar of drilling rigs, you are going to hear the roar of deisel trucks.

Findlay: When he strikes oil he says, the dead sea will come to life. There is some oil here, it seeps out of the rocks. Steven's company has just plunked down $12MM to buy one of the biggest drilling rigs in the world, currently being refitted in England. He beleives that this valley is where the biblical towns of Soddam and Gomorrah once stood until God destroyed them. This time, he says, God has another plan.

Stevens: Now one more time he says I am going to shake the earth. There's going to be a mighty shaking when the oil comes in. The earth will absolutely know that I have chosen, through my people, one more time to bring peace in to the world. From this spot, the world will be blessed.
