lkj,
You always make good points. I, however, envision Microsoft spinning off 1-2 of their business divisions (of their choosing, not the governments) to retain the best employees and have a focused business plan for each unit ( a la Lucent with their 2 spinoffs) -- after the DOJ is settled. I NEVER underestimate Ballmer/Gates and their strategy.
You ask the question "can't I don't see flaws in Palm's execution plan. Do you?" My answer would be that I have used all of the products (minus RIMM), read the reviews, own some of the component manufacturers' stock, listened to all of the component company conference calls, and have based my amateur opinions on these issues.
The Tech Investor magazine states the facts, and the "WordPerfect?" article is confronting the main issues. The fact is Palm offers less applications, less power, less memory, less color in their product line. The C/E product lines are facing the same component shortages as Palm.
I simply believe that the Palm product line is stagnating, and isn't innovative. I do completely disagree with Carl, as he indicated on his conference call, that consumers just want a simplistic device. Consumers will want more and more. Compaq/HWP/MSFT are taking these steps. This is the main thrust of my belief in Palm vs. the competition. |
