"...If it were not for hope, the heart would break."

Do you recall the story of "Pandora's Box"?

Pandora was given a gift by the gods of a beautiful chest -- but instructed to NEVER open it. But curiosity finally won her over, and she opened it despite the warning.

Remember what came out? Disease, pestilence, famine, etc...

But remember the LAST thing to come out of the box?

"Hope"

Most took that as a gift of "balance" from the gods. But if you really stop to think about it -- it may actually have been the cruelest gift of all.

What is "hope"? Mainly it's the equivilent of spiritual paralysis. When you "hope" for something -- what are you REALLY doing about the situation at hand?

Answer: Nothing.

I "hope" I'm rich some day. I "hope" I win the lottery.
I "hope" I find somebody to love. I "hope" I don't get cancer from smoking. etc...

"Faith" would have been the TRUE gift.

You want to be rich? Go to school -- develop your mind and abilities. Quit "hoping", and start showing some faith that if you truly apply yourself, you will then be rewarded with a certain degree of wealth. Have faith -- you reap what you sow.

You want to be loved? What's preventing that? Over-weight? Get thee to the gym. Whatever you feel is preventing love from coming your way -- stop "hoping" and start "doing" something about it.

You smoke, but yet you "hope" you don't get cancer? That's silly. Have some faith. Quit smoking -- reduce the odds. Eat right.
