HDD tanked by about a point on the day of the announcement (9/6) from 9.75 to about 8.75. It appears to me that the PVR bounty will be more widely distributed among the drive manufacturers than it appeared at first from HDD's early monopoly. One can no longer assume that HDD has erected significant barriers to entry. That said, I continue to feel that PVRs will lead to a renaissance of the rigid drive industry. In spite of the competitive threat, from an investment point of view, I continue to regard HDD as the premier play in this space due largely to its huge cash cushion.
