Barringer's Sabre 2000 Successfully Completes U.S. Army's Test Program for Chemical Warfare Agent Detection
September 12, 2000 07:14 AM Eastern Time
WARREN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2000--Barringer Technologies Inc. BARR , announced today that its Sabre 2000(R) hand-held detector has successfully completed the U.S. Army's Domestic Preparedness Test Program for Chemical Warfare Agent detection. The test program was established to evaluate the capability of detector platforms to reliably detect the presence of several types of chemical warfare agents. Performance data will be made available to federal, state and local agencies having responsibility for establishing the country's civil defense and first responder capability for a domestic chemical warfare terrorist attack.

Kenneth S. Wood, President of Barringer Technologies commented, "We are very pleased with the results achieved at the Army's test program at Edgewood Arsenal. Our detection capabilities are superior to published results for other detectors. This includes the ability to detect minute amounts of a chemical warfare agent as well as the Sabre's performance in the presence of potential interfering substances that could be encountered in the surrounding environment. The significance of these results is that we now have independent laboratory and field tests verifying our chemical warfare detection capabilities, which will facilitate our penetration into the various chemical warfare market areas."

Mr. Wood continued, "We have begun to demonstrate our capabilities to the many government agencies charged with the responsibility of protecting the general population from these terrorist threats.

We believe the requirement for detection equipment to meet this threat will significantly enlarge the markets we presently serve. Feedback that we have received from potential customers about our capabilities is very positive, and we have already received initial orders for Sabre 2000(R) chemical warfare detectors."

Headquartered in Warren, New Jersey, Barringer Technologies Inc. is principally engaged in developing, manufacturing, and marketing of high technology products for drug, explosive and chemical detection and other security and industrial applications. The Sabre 2000(R) and the IONSCAN(R) are the Company's proprietary trace particle drug and explosive detection units.
