Norway Order announced for Telenor broadband pilot

Next Level Selected by Telenor Norway for VDSL Data and Video Deployment

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. and OSLO, Norway--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 12, 2000--Next Level Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXTV - news), a leader in ATM/IP optical interactive DSL broadband systems, and Telenor Norway, Norway's leading telecom, IT and media company, today announced that they have signed a purchase agreement for Telenor to begin the deployment of Next Level's NLevel3 Unified Access Platform to provide digital video and high-speed DSL Internet access to residences in South Norway.

Telenor will utilize Next Level's VDSL (very high-speed digital subscriber line) technology to pilot next generation TV and PC interactive broadband services over their existing access network infrastructure. Telenor has one of the most modern networks in Europe, with the highest penetration of ISDN worldwide and is planning to expand its VDSL trial to hundreds of customers. At the same time, Telenor will pilot a variety of broadband video technologies and intends to roll out VDSL to the metropolitan markets.
