PHONE.COM (PHCM): Lehman Brothers initiated coverage of PHONE.COM on Sept. 5 with a 1-BUY rating, the firm's highest. PHONE.COM provides wireless browsing capabilities to telecommunications companies, but Lehman notes that it is expanding its product offering to include "applications such as unified messaging and personal information management." Its customer list, which includes AT&T (T) and SPRINT (FON) on the phone company side and MOTOROLA (MOT) and ERICSSON (ERICY) on the manufacturer side, is also cited as a big plus. Finally, PHONE.COM recently announced a merger with wireless Internet infrastructure company SOFTWARE.COM (SWCM), which Lehman says will expand its customer base and its product line. Lehman forecasts a loss of $0.71 a share for the fiscal year ending in June 2001. Its price target is $120, based on a price-to-sales relative valuation. PHONE.COM shares closed at $97.13 on Sept. 7. PHONE.COM research was accessed 915 times during the week of Aug. 21 to 27, and 28 new reports were added to the Multex.com database.
