Hi Don Green; Joint Hitachi/NEC COULD come to terms with Rambus??? This stuff is getting stranger and stranger.

Hitachi signed a similar synchronous-interface licensing pact with Rambus earlier this year which extends only through the end of 2000 -- prior to the launch of the DRAM joint venture with NEC. However, since both partners have signed licensing pacts with Rambus, the joint venture could be a candidate to come to terms with Rambus on the synchronous patents, according to observers.

Does this mean that the NEC agreement only holds until Hitachi and NEC combine DRAM stuff in December? WHOA!!! STOP THE PRESSES!!! If this is true, this agreement is no more significant than the Hitachi agreement, and is a sign of severe weakness in Rambus' position. They should be signing the big players, not the guys who are getting out of the business.

If this is the case, I cancel my suggestion that this is significant news. Instead, I just don't know what to think. There are too many unknowns running around here.

WHERE'S THE BEEF???
