BeOn Announces the ``Next Generation'' BeOn PC; With Stunning Looks, the BeOn PC Pushes Computing Out of the Square, Beige Box and Into the 21St Century!
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2000--BeOn Operating Company, (a subsidiary of CompUSA Inc.) today announced the formal introduction of the BeOn(TM) PC, a full-featured PC packaged in an artistic, elegant chassis.
Targeted to the general, high-end leading edge PC market, the BeOn PC is being introduced just as the industry is starting to look beyond the traditional beige box.
"Consumers want more than a beige box," said Mark Clauder, Senior Director of Product Development for BeOn Operating Company. "The PC industry, while quick to innovate technically, has been extremely uncreative in overall PC artistry. Everybody waits until someone else takes the risk. Here at BeOn, we are innovative leaders and believe that the time to launch this new design, in conjunction with the new Microsoft Windows(R) Me operating system, is now."
CONFIGURATIONS, PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
But elegant looks aren't all there is to the BeOn PC. Some of the most innovative ideas of BeOn PC are the service programs that are part of the BeOn PC experience. Each BeOn PC comes with a three-year, "bumper-to-bumper" on-site warranty with 7/24-telephone support and in-store configuration. Also included is a three-hour "Start Right" training class that the customer can schedule at any CompUSA store, and thirty days of CompUSA's Dial-A-Tech(SM) telephone technical support for software. "BeOn is committed to making sure our customers feel confident with owning and using their new BeOn PC," stated Clauder.
Launching with two models, the BeOn PC is a full-featured machine. The LI-700 entry model sports an Intel Pentium III 700Mhz processor with 96MB SDRAM, 15GB Hard Drive, 3.5" Floppy, CDRW Drive, 56K modem, 10/100 NIC, Internet Keyboard, 2-button scroll mouse and Windows(R) Me. Revelations Entertainment and Intel Work Together to Define Digital Cinematography
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2000-- Revelations Entertainment, the production company co-owned by three-time Academy Award(R) nominee Morgan Freeman and producing partner Lori McCreary, Tuesday announced that it is working with Intel Corp. to define a new methodology for end-to-end media production.
Anticipating that most films will eventually originate digitally (shot on digital cameras and designed in 3D on computers) and ultimately will be digitally distributed on any platform, both companies are committed to enhancing the role that digital effects play in film, and pioneering "digital cinematography" that is not readily visible to the viewer.
With pilot systems shipping in Q4 of 2000, the Intel(R) Itanium(TM) processor-based workstations will be a platform of choice for digital cinematography. Some of the new software for the Itanium processor-based workstations include: Alias Wavefront's Maya, Arete Image Software, Digimation, Cebas, Discreet 3D Studio Max(R), project: messiah Group, NewTek, Next Limit, Reyes Infografica, Mental Images, Right Hemisphere, Softimage, TGS and Volume Graphics.
Will Swope, Vice President and General Manager, Intel Solutions Enabling Group commented: "The Itanium processor-based workstations will be a work horse for designers who need increased performance for developing digital content including complex 3-D modeling, animation, scene rendering, video editing and special effects.
"Workstation platforms based on the Itanium processor will enable content producers like Revelations Entertainment to meet ever more stringent time-to-market pressures while creating complex special effects and data visualizations."
Freeman stated, "I believe that the current trend toward more digital effects in film will continue until digital cinematography is the norm, not the 'event' that it is now. Lori and I created Revelations with this kind of technological leap in mind."
McCreary is one of the few Hollywood producers who has a degree and experience in computer programming and software design, and speaks the language of the digital revolution. Stated McCreary, "With the upcoming release of production-ready technologies for the Intel Pentium(R) processor and the 64-bit Itanium processor, the time is now for end-to-end digital content creation."
