India - Intel To Provide IT Training For School Teachers
NEW DELHI, INDIA, 2000 SEP 12 (NB) -- By CT Mahabharat, Newsbytes. Intel Asia Electronics Inc. [NASDAQ:INTC], under its education program christened "Innovation in Education," has launched a joint initiative with the department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, to train teachers from Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas across India on the effective use of technology in education.
A training lab has been set up at the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in New Delhi's Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) premises.
The selected teachers from schools all over the country will undergo one month of training at the KV, JNU lab for handling computers as tools for research, communication and interactive learning. The training is based on a model where the teachers trained under Intel's program will take the initiative to train a minimum of 10 teachers in their schools.
Different computer packages to be taught include Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Publisher. The emphasis will also be given to the efficient handling of the Internet so that it can be a tool for research, communication and reference.
During October, the lab will be used to impart training to principals of the schools. There is a network of 854 KVS schools in the country, which provides uninterrupted education to children of transferable central government employees. Navodaya Vidyalaya claims to provide a good education to children belonging to country's rural areas.
