Causality is not the issue, except as it is used to excuse the behavior. I myself think that the majority of homosexuals cannot help it, mainly for psychological reasons, and that the behavior is not harmful enough to deprive them of erotic love. It is upon that basis that I would enjoin tolerance, and most Republicans would at least agree with that. Issues like homosexual marriage go beyond tolerance to equalization of the lifestyle with the societal norm. Since there is reason to buttress the norm rather than weaken it, so that people exercise more self- control and discretion in matters like extra- marital affairs and divorce, one may, indeed, object to further attacking the sanctity of the norm.

Additionally, since scruples against homosexuality are widespread on religious grounds, it is a serious matter to ram it down the throats of people when there is no compelling reason. What you think is kindness looks like disrespect for their religion and a disregard for their freedom.

Left- handedness never had such significance.........
