Got a call back from Compaq IR stating that SCI's problems were related to electronics and PCs, but that CPQ did not use it as a major supplier for PCs. I also recall an analyst's note about 9 or 12 months ago reviewing the ECM industry and stating that Compaq was moving production away from SCI in Europe at the time.

I read the 9/99 10-K a while ago and recall SCI as having their biggest customers as HWP, followed by Apple, CPQ, and Dell. I think HWP's business is 3 times the size of Compaq's and twice the size of Apple's. I also think that CPQ and Dell are about equal, and that the top 10 customers account for 75% of the business of SCI.

I also heard a rumor that CPQ had displaced HWP in the WMT/SAMS chains and that may be filtering its way through the system, if true. If indeed HWP had SCI producing product for that channel, that may explain part of the shortfall in SCI.

I bought some more at 29 3/4 because I think CPQ has tremendous value here. Thanks for the fire sale.
