Alcatel Appoints Eddie Minshull as President of Northern Europe

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2000--Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE:ALA) today announced the appointment of Eddie Minshull as the President of Northern Europe.

The Alcatel Northern Europe region includes key countries such as the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Nordic region.

Mr. Minshull will be responsible for driving sales and support, marketing and strategic operations across Alcatel's extensive business portfolio throughout the Northern European region from his base in the UK.

"Eddie Minshull's appointment will be fundamental to the continued success of Alcatel's comprehensive product portfolio spanning many technologies including DSL, broadband wireless access and mobile communications within Northern Europe. This is a crucial marketplace for us and Eddie will play a key part in the future success of the Company," said Julien de Wilde, President of Alcatel for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.

Mr. Minshull came from the former Newbridge Networks, which was recently acquired by Alcatel. He joined Newbridge in May 1999 as Vice President of Channels and Alliances for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and brings many years of managerial experience, including his work at Compaq.
