Mary Cluney. Re: "Could we have a reality check, please? " I agree. As a long time reader of these threads, calls for Barrett's and Yu's head seem to be premature.

To me, chopping off heads for pushing the enveloppe can send exactly the wrong signal to the organization--i.e. get cautious. I think this happens to organizations when management pulls in their horns after a setback (See: IBM after the antitrust battle), and the company goes into decline. The risktakers leave etc.

In a recent interview, Barrett said that getting out all these new products makes him paranoid. I think that's the right focus, and it's a signal to the organization of what everyone should be pushing on. As shareholders we will benefit as well, if we maintain a LONG-TERM view.
