Absolutely not. "The question is not does the state have a right to refuse the innovation of gay marriages, but is there any compelling reason to accede to the innovation?" and there is no compelling reason for gays to push for it except as a hateful attack on the culture of people who endorse core family values. Gays could just as easily lobby for a legal status using a different term, such as, "Civil Union" and probably succeed. That is not the real motive.
