As I said, there is nothing preventing them from making a solemn commitment now. The only thing that would change is their rights under the law.

The way in which homosexual marriage could be injurious to normal marriage is by weakening the sense of the norm. It says that the two are equivalent, that it does not matter much with whom you couple. Since most heterosexuals are bound to look upon homosexuality with distaste, it tells them that their feelings on deep matters of propriety are simply wrong, and therefore calls into question remaining inhibitions about cheating and divorce, which are already
major social problems. You may disagree, but laughing it away merely shows that you are frivolous.........
