John, I think you are mistaken.

If you follow Ford's site, it is clear that he only lists longs that have cup and handle or other base formation from which the new high directly originates. True, the literature does not indicate that charts are a part of the process of selection, but it is clear that there is a selection process (albeit not described) over and above the merit ranking. The literature does indicate that one must choose from a number of selections, and the obvious way to do that is indicated in the web site. Charts. This IS a CANLSIM style of trading, don't forget.

I recognize that the 52 week high low criteria is intended to avoid extended stocks, but one clearly has to select from a number of stocks each week to fill up and maintain a portfolio of 8 stocks. Selection is key, the rest is mechanical. There is nothing in the manual which tells you how to pick each position from among the many obtained from a weekly scan. The only way to do that is charts, and Ford unquestionably relies heavily upon them. I think you will be disappointed in your returns if you don't use them, and I think you will be more disappointed if you monkey with the selling rules usiing TA, as you've suggested.

Those are my thoughts. Thanks for yours. Good luck.
