NVIDIA and Abaco Share Moby Award:
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sep 13, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Award from Mobile Insights Honors Excellence in End-User Mobile Computing
NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA chart, msgs) the world's leading supplier of performance 3D graphics processors, and Abaco PR Inc., the global leader for delivering the wireless enterprise, were jointly honored with a Moby Award from Mobile Insights at the Go Mobile 2000 conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
NVIDIA and Abaco were presented with this year's award for the Manufacturing category. NVIDIA recently implemented an advanced wireless data capturing system using Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework to build and deploy ultra-thin client applications for Pocket PCs, providing NVIDIA with instant access to production flow tracking information of their manufacturing supply chain. Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework, which was recently chosen as a preferred partner platform for global mobile computing standards by SAP, provides a bi-directional seamless integration of mission-critical information from NVIDIA's SAP enterprise business system to the mobile user. The implementation was done in only 60 days.
"We are proud of our work with NVIDIA. Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework's open architecture and ultra-thin client application server allows NVIDIA to create, deploy and maintain robust mobile computing applications through a myriad of standard application development tools and languages like full Visual Basic, C++ and Delphi," said Fernando Alvarez, president and CEO of Abaco. "NVIDIA has combined the power and flexibility of server-based computing in Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework with the ease and convenience of the Pocket PC resulting in a mobile business system with the most advanced technologies."
The "Moby" Awards, established last year by Mobile Insights, a mobile computing and wireless data communications services firm, honor the best and finest in the application and use of mobile computing and data communications technologies. Winners were selected based on innovation, impact on user's business and robustness.
"We just couldn't see the point in investing in yesterday's technology. We had chosen to use Pocket PC devices and the latest version of SAP(TM) solutions," said Joe Sura, vice president of Information Systems for NVIDIA. "Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework provided the perfect platform for building and deploying robust mobile business applications for Pocket PCs and the Abaco Bridge for R/3(R) provided the functionality we needed for connecting to our SAP inter-enterprise software solutions."
Since implementing their system, keystroke and data collection errors have been eliminated, increasing overall productivity, while enhancing the functionality of SAP solutions for NVIDIA. The realtime accessibility of accurate information from the entire system puts critical data into the hands of operational management, creating more enhanced SAP solutions and reducing NVIDIA's total cost of ownership.
