Rambus sues Infineon for patent infringement
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Sept 13 (Reuters) - In its latest action against a computer memory chip maker over patent infringement allegations, Rambus Inc. (NasdaqNM:RMBS - news) said on Wednesday it filed suit in Germany against Infineon Technologies AG (NYSE:IFX - news).
Mountain View, Calif.-based Rambus, a designer of memory chip technology, said on Monday it filed similar suits against Micron Technology Inc. (NYSE:MU - news) and Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd. .
In its suit against Infineon filed in Mannheim, Germany, Rambus sought injunctions to halt the sale, manufacture and use of Infineon SDRAM and DDR SDRAM memory devices.
Trial has been set in Mannheim for Dec. 22, 2000.
Rambus said it also filed suit in the Eastern District Court in Virginia against Infineon for wilful patent infringement.
Rambus has licensed its technology to about 30 companies, including an agreement with NEC Corp. also announced on Wednesday.
Some memory chip makers have resisted attempts to license Rambus technology, saying it was gained through industry meetings in the early 1990s and is unpatentable.
Rambus developed the technology to speed up computer chip processing speed, and has licensed it to a number of memory chip makers. |
