< On what do you base that Dave? ... Have you tried it, or is this just another baseless, negative comment? >
My comments were based on product reviews in places like The New York Times, eWeek, PC World, byte.com, zdnet.com, and other places. Each of these reviews had headlines like "Windows ME is not for Me" (actually, two different articles had this same headline!) and "More Frills, Few Thrills..." The strong consensus is that Win ME is a good OS upgrade to pass up until your next machine purchase. Several reviewers reported that their reasonably new machines would not work with Windows ME.
As a matter of fact, I've only seen one positive review of Win ME, on CNET, but it was obvious that the reviewer had not actually tried to install or run the OS. This review said things like, "Microsoft says Windows Me is more stable and healthier overall than Windows 98." Everything was just copied from a MSFT press release.
Compared with the excitement around Apple's Mac OS X Beta release, the response to Win ME has been a real yawner.
