Hi Sector,
I can't speak for the thread, but I can offer an opinion.
This LMT thread primarily focuses on last-mile residential products and services of the type that deliver telephone, data, 'Net access and TV (and other entertainment) services. By land and by air. The idiom that has evolved here is consistent with the "battleground for the residence" schtick that was foretold, ten years ago.
In contrast, most of the devices and components that you mentioned from MRV are not specifically keyed to MSOs, per se, or to the last-mile residential DSL or wireless sets that would be purchased by xLECs.
Some of those products are, granted, either directly or indirectly related to LMT.... but when it comes to identifying MRV as a pure play, or at least one that presents a respectable level of influence in this sector as measured by service provider spending, they don't meet the popular test. This is not merely my opinion. It's the very fact behind the reason that led you to ask the question in the first place.
In actuality, some of MRV's products do get mentioned both here and on the FCTF board. Jolt, in particular, has been discussed by myself and others in the recent past. And some of the metro gear that you listed was talked about extensively on the SilkRoad thread.
But those network elements are metro devices that are used in business communications, not residential.
The MRV name doesn't associate well here. We've been through this before, about 18 - 24 months ago, when my comments led someone on the MRVC board to take my comments to MRV's CEO. Do you recall? Was that you? What was the outcome of that exercise, do you recall?
MRV is a catalog of companies, and within the catalog there are probably some excellent companies. But it is not a name that one associates readily with a "manageable number" of discreet point solutions for residential last-mile services. Just my two cents. ---------
Let me leave off with the following. It's from the front page of this thread by Warren Gates who so perfectly stated:
"Let us post accurate, concise, meaningful facts and opinions ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGIES involved. Trim away the fat ... get to the meat of it. Let each post be worth the time reading it. Let's not be carried away with our love for a particular stock ... there are a lot of other threads for posting their day to day activities ... Let us concentrate on the technology and business issues ... so we may learn more and invest wisely ..."
