Dear JC,

The high price of oil is both a reason of the current global economic boom and a threat to its coninuation. I don't believe the oil producing nations are ignorant of the fact!! President Hugo Chàvez of of Venezuela and his oil minister, Ali Rodriguez!!! Venuzela has been agressively pushing for a target between 22 to 28 USD per Bbl. The idea is to have the cartel automatically
adjust production when the price of the crude oil moves
above or bellow the target price. Such a mechanism requires
a great degree of co-ordination among the OPEC memebers, and is not likely to work a Hugo Chevez suggests.

The infaltion in the US is showing the signs of revival
becasue of High oil prices and Presidnet Clinton knows sai on Tuesday that the government would seek to counter the prices. He knows an infaltion could damage democrats to wi the White House. So, what trump card do you think he will
play? I am afraid he will try to first convince Saudi's, Kwait and the Emirates to increse production. If that doesn't work, then Iraqi trump card will be played.

We in the west have enjoyed stable prices since 1980's. The price of Oil is a thrid lower that it was in 1990, which
fuled the US economy. (it is of little comfort to us in
Europe as we are paying 4 dollars a gallon, or 1.06 dollars a liter at the pumps, or the stuggling developing nations
that mus import oil.)
