Virata sees Q2 revenues at about $41.5 mln
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept 14 (Reuters) - Telecommunications equipment maker Virata Corp. (NasdaqNM:VRTA - news) said on Thursday that it expected fiscal second-quarter revenues to be about $41.5 million, up from $27.7 million in the previous quarter.

Virata, which makes components used in digital subscriber line (DSL) equipment, said in a statement that the strong growth was spurred by continued expansion in North America.

It also cited high-volume DSL installations in Asia and Europe, new contracts and a hike in production by customers. DSL products allow high-speed Internet service over conventional telephone lines.

The second quarter ends Oct. 1, and Virata expects to announce its results on Oct. 25.

The company's shares closed on Wednesday at $50-3/16.
