In '97(?), AMAT bought Opal and Orbot, both Israeli cos that make metrology and inspection equipment. AMAT is now in KLAC territory. I know a field engineer from KLAC who laughed off AMAT's presence in this area in '99; never a smart thing to do. If I remember correctly, these combined two had revs of only about 100M when they were acquired. Now they are on the verge on 1B! Proof-positive that semiconductor manufacturers want a soup to nuts option for their equipment needs.
