Engineer: thank you for the insights to the technical advantages of HDR vs. EDGE as they would apply to a TDMA system. Of course, we all know that HDR and 1X perform better than GPRS or EDGE for a CDMA system. However, I am beginning to see how these platforms can be applied to TDMA networks.

To be honest, I have been puzzled that there has not been more information that addresses the issue of how CDMA2000 would be a beter replacement to GPRS or EDGE in a TDMA environment. Yesterday's comments by BLS regarding CDMA2000 as an upgrade for their TDMA networks in South America shows that QCOM's influence in 3G is taking on a much larger role (as mentioned by Gilder).

With the benefit of your comments, I can appreciate that 1X and HDR can be used as a replacement to GPRS and EDGE from a technical perspective. The final CDMA2000 standards give QCOM and others, especially Samsung, the leverage to force network operators to fairly evaluate the performance and economic benefits of CDMA2000 vs WCDMA.
