CPWR surges 11.5 percent

--12:49 pm - By Michael Baron
Compuware (CPWR: news, msgs) is adding $1.12, or 11.5 percent, to $10.88, on heavy volume of 6.6 million shares at midday. Average daily volume is 6.2 million. John McPeake, an analyst with Prudential Securities, confirmed the stock appeared to moving on rumors that it may be in talks to be acquired by International Business Machines (IBM: news, msgs). "I have heard it but I don't know if it's true," said McPeake. "I know they've talked in the past but that was roughly two years ago and nothing came of it." McPeake said the acquisition would make sense. "Their enterprise mainframe software offerings would be a good fit for IBM as would Computer Associates (CA: news, msgs) and BMC Software (BMCS: news, msgs)," said McPeake. A spokesperson for Compuware declined comment on the movement in the stock. IBM wasn't immediately available.
