I do not think a 2000 dollar cost for the latest processor and chipset represents a barrier to sales at all.

Whether the Register article is accurate or not I do not know but it is currently the only article discussing production. I might add the article seems credible especially in view of the introductory price of the P4. It could be a killer product in the performance desk top and workstation market from the outset.

It seems to me that the main issues here for Intel are the launch risk which can be greatly reduced by a much more stringent Beta test period and software driver etc issues.

Obviously, software compiled and optimized to perform with Intel new architecture and chipset will have higher performance than the unrecompiled software.
