A Senator will not be very effective having good ideas, but unable to get the votes necessary to have the ideas enacted.
The last I checked, journalists don't vote on the Senate floor (much as they'd like to, mind you). I reject a notion that we should pursue a world where good ideas only count if you have style. I also drew the line at journalists. I want a U.S. Senator who's very persuasive with his Senate colleagues, persuading them as to the quality of his ideas -- not worrying about make-up and MSNBC stand-ups.
More people will be swayed by the actual policies of the candidates, but a televised debate is not the forum for presenting a detailed position.
A. You let me know where a candidate is supposed to better reach his voters than on a televised debate. B. What the heck else is a debate supposed to be -- a smackdown? Oh, I remember -- you want it to be a beauty contest about style.
The U.S. population is not as stupid as you think they are.
After what I've witnessed for the past 7.5 years, I must vigorously disagree. By accepting style over substance, character, and content, we've truly received the government we deserve. The existence of this administration and growth of the federal government is ample testimony. The thought that Americans will ratify the past 8 years of lies, sleaze, corruption, scandal, degradation, and criminal behavior by electing either Gore or Hillary Rotten ("Please, call me 'Evita'") Clinton will be all the confirmation one needs about the intelligence of the U.S. electorate. |
