One Down, Seven to Go

MILAN (Reuters) - A Sicilian woman carrying octuplets gave
birth to the first of her babies, but doctors said they hoped
some time would elapse before the others were born.

Marinella Mazzara, 31, who had been given fertility
treatment, gave birth Wednesday naturally to a baby girl, who
was named Margherita. She weighed just a pound.

The housewife from the small rural town of Ballata in
Sicily will set a world record if all her babies live beyond
the first week.
