I don't know. It might have to do with pressure from Intel. Maybe they want to get P4 systems first (together with Dell). Or maybe they get better prices from Intel when they stay Intel exclusive in the US. Or maybe we are just speculating too much...

No, Compaq is 50% AMD in the retail market (on a systems basis) and they have 1.1 GHz Thunderbirds available. The recent report from that analyst at ZDNet was nonsense. Compaq is still AMDs biggest supporter (along with Gateway).
