LindyBill,

It has been my understanding that earnings, even during hypergrowth, are best considered relative to the other competitors and to the wildly chaotic need to ramp up staffing, production, and distribution. Page 305 of the TRFM Tools and Processes for the Goriolla-Game Investor chapter makes these interesting statements:

"Earnings in and of themselves are not the key performance metric during a hypergrowth market."

and,

"... we would not normally act strictly on an earnings basis during the hypergrowth stage of a gorilla or royalty market. There are simply too many situations where sacrificing earnings represents the right strategy. Instead, we would use it as a confirming indicator."

I was truly struck by this concept the first time I read it - it just seemed so completely credible to me.
