Catalyst Semiconductor Introduces Motorola Compatible SPI Bus EEPROM Product Family
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 2000--Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:CATS - news) today announced the introduction of a new Motorola SPI bus compatible serial EEPROM product family. First products to be introduced, CAT25C128 and CAT25C256, provide 128K and 256K densities respectively and come in a variety of packages, including SOIC and TSSOP. With operating speeds of up to 5Mhz and operating voltage as low as 2.5V, these products are targeted at high speed, low voltage, energy and space sensitive applications including cellular and Internet capable (WAP) telephones, PDAs and pagers. Applications also include graphic accelerators, network cards, GPS receivers and others. Block write protection features, which restrict unauthorized access to certain areas of the memory, provide an enhanced level of security for certain applications. This feature is used for cloning prevention in cellular telephones and other similar applications, which require secure storage of information. Additional SPI products are in development.

The Company also announced that it has received the first significant order for the new SPI products for applications in GSM cellular telephones.

Radu Vanco, president and CEO, said, ``With the introduction of the new SPI bus product family, we are filling an important gap in our serial EEPROM product portfolio, which previously included only I2C and Microwire interface products. Small physical size, higher speed and the ability to operate at low voltages make these products an ideal choice for many applications, including battery powered applications, which represent a key focus in our strategy.''

Founded in 1985, Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc. is headquartered in Sunnyvale. The Company designs and markets a broad range of programmable products including Flash Memories, Serial and Parallel EEPROMs, NVRAM, Digital Potentiometers, Microcontroller Supervisory circuits and other programmable Mixed Signal products. Catalyst products are used in telecommunications, networking systems, computation, industrial and consumer markets, driven by the Internet revolution. Typical applications include modems, network cards, PC BIOS, DIMM modules, cellular telephones, digital satellite box receivers, set-top boxes and Internet routers. Catalyst's Quality Management System is ISO 9001 certified. Additional information may be obtained by visiting the Company's Web site at www.catsemi.com.
