telecomguy,

As a NT shareholder I would LOVE NT to spin off their component division. This would assure that business of being able to sell to a wider range of customers. As a division of Nortel competitors will go to other sources rather than NT assuring these companies (JDSU, GLW, and all the startups) of a strong future as competitors to NT. So, by not spinning off the division NT provides fertile ground for their competitors in both the systems and components space to grow.

NT's game of attempting to control supply is narrowly focused on 10G and will be short lived IMO. Furthermore I would not assume Russo or CSCO is foolish. I can guarantee you that Roth doesn't believe this.
