Gary, in the long-run, NT will probably spin off the Optics component (I know Roth believes in sub-contracting anything non-essential or proprietary).

BUT, the timing is not right. Right now Optics component IS ESSENTIAL for NT. When there is potentially $50 billion dollars (I am guessing) worth of committments/contracts to deliver, NT is not going to WAIT for the optics component industry to MATURE!!!!!

I am sure when & if the component supply market expands & matures, NT will look at spinning it off (or if they spin it off now to capture the valuation being accorded when Wall St. is drunk with Optics fever, he will make sure that NT still controls the spun-off optics entity!)

As to Russo being foolish, of course the guy is not an idiot -- he just doesn't have the polish to handle a smart interviewer....that's obvious to see.

That interview to me was laughable as it makes it very painfully obvious that CSCO is not even a player in the Optics space.
