Re: "Then why did Prue downgrade AMD saying that they were concerned about inventory buildup from low infrastructure support? Wasn't this backed up by Dean Kent's monthly infrastructure report? And what about todays rumor from the Reg saying that AMD is asking distributors to take inventory off their hands to make the shipment goals?"

First off, you were the one who said the problem was chipsets. I was the one who pointed out that AMD manufactures chipsets so if there is a shortage of chipsets it brings up some interesting questions. AMD cannot be producing lots of Athlons AND lots of chipsets. Why not? If the yield is good for Athlons, there must be lots of fab space left for chipsets because AMD is targeting only 3.6 million Athlons for all of Q3. Far less than even a single large fab should be producing and AMD has 2 big ones. One running at full capacity and one running at a little over 20%. Intel is producing well over 1 million CuMines per week from a single fab so one might expect AMD to be performing somewhere in this neighborhood, assuming no yield problems. Chipsets are smaller die so they should have more than enough capacity to produce lots of chipsets with the remaining unused fab capacity leftover from the low Athlon output, assuming the Athlon yields are good... If the Athlon yields poorly then there would be limited fab capacity to produce the chipsets they are so dependent on. According to you, for some reason there appears to be a shortage of chipsets.

If AMD is asking customers to take early delivery of Q4 material so they can hit Q3 goals, remember those Q3 goals are for an anemic 3.6 Million and AMD has been claiming they can sell all the Athlons they can manufacture.
