Why should it be any different for employees? Let the marketplace determine work conditions. During low un-employment times, benefits will be good because companies are competing for workers.

Sounds good in theory, and certainly applies to some programs like affirmative action etc. which (imo) could be abolished - but with careful scritiny this issue is a lot more complicated, for example: we will always have a lowest-tier workforce that will work for minimum if for nothing else is a representation of our immigration policies. So with a completely free market system, these textile workers or whoever will receive the absolute minimum pay and likely no medical benefits. So who pays for these people when they get sick and need hospitalization? Taxpayers, and personally I would rather see McDonalds or Burlington or whoever mandated to pay health insurance.
