Great Steelers Site & Thanks. Permanently bookmarked.

My wife used to manage F&B at the Ramada by the Pitt airport.

I got in early from Chi one Friday afternoon and called the hotel to see if she was working. She was filling in, in Myron's Lounge (Myron Federoff not Cope). She said "Eric, you better get over here. Place is empty, but some guy that just lost his job has been drinking since 11 AM and is passed out in a back booth".

Sure enough, when I got there, there was Roy Gerela. Gary Anderson had been signed that morning (ending a great era). I had missed the news.

My 12 years in Pittsburgh were a gas. The whole social life of the city revolved around football. I arrived Dorsett's freshman year at Pitt (year after the 'Immaculate Reception'. Danny Marino was chucking the ball for Central Catholic. Everybody thought Bradshaw should be converted to halfback. "Steel Curtain" was in place. Franco, Rocky, and Frenchy were in the backfield. Ham there, but as Mel Blount wrote we were "Three Bricks Shy of a Load". Lambert, Swan and Stallworth arrived the next year. Three bricks.

Myron was an institution. Bit of a jerk, but an institution.
