Sports Games On Wireless Phones

In a bid for wireless exposure for their interactive sports games, 3Play and ESPN.com, the New York-based subsidiary of Walt Disney Internet Group, Burbank, Calif., on Thursday announced an agreement with SBC Wireless, San Antonio, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia.

Under terms of the deal, SBC's 16.2 million subscribers will receive 3play, which offers daily cash prizes based on the performance of three randomly selected athletes, as a package with e-mail, text messaging, and information services at no coast for the first six months.

"Our goal is to bring the ESPN.com experience to fans wherever they may be," said Riley McDonough, vice president, advertising sales, ESPN Internet Group. SBC customers also get access to ESPN.com's Fantasy Football, a fictional league created by fans from real-life professional football players.

"The ability to bring fun interactive games is a compelling part of [wireless interactivity]," said Debra Kennedy, director of consumer and brand marketing for Nokia.
