Charles - in this case, at least in the Windows world, data suggests that it costs about the same to maintain a bus or 50 cars. Given that cost is the same, which would you rather ride in? BTW mass transit numbers suggest that even when cars are many times more expensive than busses, people prefer to pay rather than endure the inconvenience. Perhaps your analogy holds after all.

Of course, in the Unix world, with both terminal and X heritage, thin clients make more sense. Still, that has been true for more than 20 years and I have not seen Unix based terminal systems take the world by storm. Maybe next year...
