espn2 lightweight championship fight tonight between castillo and johnston was pretty action-packed. imo, the decision went the wrong way. i think the champ (castillo) did plenty to retain his title. he did not deserve to lose. as soon as i heard the first judge's card (even), then the second judge's card (115-114), i knew the nod was going to hometown fighter johnston.

since i seem to always make a comment about refs, tonight's performance by richard (i'm-bound-to-screw-up-somehow)steele was very good. nothing quirky, kept the fighters separated, very fair officiating. i liked how one of the ringside commentators stated that you could see how busy steele was by the blood on his sleeves. it was true. he had on a long-sleeved shirt, and both arms had blood up to the elbows.

one of the ringside commentators, scott ledeux (the ex-fighter) was kinda' hung up on the phrase "gotta let 'em go, stevie, gotta let 'em go". if i had a dollar for every time he repeated those words.... <g3>

we need fights like tonight. clean, crisp, non-stop action.

:)
