Scumbria,
RE:"2. He won't approve any drilling in the Arctic Wildlife refuge and probably not off California and Florida.

We miss those oil spills. Santa Barbara was a wonderful experience for the people of California. I'm sure that Alaskan's feel the same way about the Valdez.

We need long term solutions to our energy problems. Oil is not the answer."

I'm certainly not advocating offshore drilling. I used to live in Santa Barbara. Well aware of the spill. Not to mention the natural oil seepage there.
What I'm saying is that we have little oil policy now. Under Clinton/Gore. If we don't drill, we will likely just have to cycle through the pain of the 70's again. Drive smaller cars and get rid of the Winnebagos.
You seem to think the best policy is to slow consumption. OK.
Legislating that is political suicide.. People just don't want to hear they are the problem. Both candidates will likely skirt the issue other than to blame it on the oil companies.
I'm afraid the problem IS oil...Alternative sources just haven't panned out. Where's all those wind mills and solar collectors? Better break out the electric cars?
