Thanks, Frank

I printed it for reading tomorrow.

I was also reading through a PDF document on the Pluris architecture that I posted here on Friday.

When I get time I will make a post of some of the comparisons, but I will mention one now that intrigued me.

Pluris says they have their Teraplex switching architechure that can hook up to 128 of their basic boxes (1 per rack) together and manage as one system. The links can be up to 100 meters apart "allowing carriers to locate chassis wherever convenient within a CO".

Charlotte's Aranea has a more robust basic box and fits 2 per rack and can also be centrally managed. They can "only" hook up 32 boxes into their AROS (Aranea Operating System), but they use DWDM links up to 40Gbps so that "the clustered machines may be managed as a single virtual router through AROS even if the clustered routers are GEOGRAPHICALLY REMOTE."

Geographically remote! The Charlotte's designers thought through the big picture, while the Pluris designers appear to have gone with lesser vision in this one regard - and as you know 100 meters (a football field plus one end zone) isn't all that much when snaking through troughs and risers.

Big difference, huh? And an interesting concept.
