| Dubya and Gore are both bright enough fellows, and Dubya was a better student. But let us concede, for the sake of argument, that Gore is somewhat smarter. Now, suppose I have the choice between two doctors, one of whom is acquainted with the germ theory of disease, the other of whom still believes in the 4 humors; one of whom knows about advances in drug therapies, and how to research appropriate pharmaceuticals, the other of whom is still using leeches and homeopathic cures; one of whom is aware of the array of technical help that a diagnostician has available, and the other of whom thinks that a CAT scan scans cats: Which physician would I pick? Would I care which one did better on the SATs, or which one had a knowledge of modern medicine? Well, even supposing that Gore is the smarter fellow, he does not know enough about the way that the economy or society or government works to be president. Dubya does. You may say I am being "ideological", but that is nonsense. Of course I have policy preferences, so do most people. That is neither here nor there. I cannot help but to support a man who is on the right track, in my opinion........ |
