I was in CA last week and when I filled up my rental car, I paid $2.10 for regular... ouch.

BTW on the wax front - not every paint needs or benefits from wax. My Lotus uses a 2 part air-catalyzed paint which is similar to the paints used on the nose of commercial jets. It has a shine like glass and is VERY hard. Lotus specifically says "Do Not WAX this Paint" and I have never done so. The car is now 15 years old, and the paint still shines like glass...
