Cases in recent memory seem to make a mockery of the civil justice system. Media highlights override the reasonable man concept, i.e., like tobacco companies held a gun to someone's head to make them smoke. Pure unadulterated ignorance. It seems even worse in the criminal justice system. The administration likes to claim how much crime has gone down, but I sure don't see it around here. We still murder more people in this country every 3 years than the military lost during the entire Vietnam War. Yet, here in Florida, they let out convicted murderers because the prisons are overcrowded. As far as ordinary citizen jurors, could you imagine david karasick as a juror if he knew you were a conservative? There is little to no impartiality anymore. If a juror of a different race votes to convict, it seems like it's automatic grounds for appeal. The damages awarded in some of these cases are absurd, and who pays for it? Consumers. I am not a smoker, but guess who pays additional taxes if enough people quit smoking to dent the revenues collected from cigarette sales? You and I. The unreasonable tort damages have led to too many frivolous lawsuits, where the lawyers are the ones who end up winning in the end, especially in the class action lawsuits. I am completely behind efforts for tort reform. One more reason to vote for Bush.knc
