Ah, but the 1GHZ P3 was introduced on March 8, and was unavailable in retail for 6 months - they first showed up last Sunday. Perhaps the box makers are waiting for the 1.2GHZ Athlons early next month. That way they don't have to redo all of their documentation, web sites, manuals, etc. one month after they release the 1.1GHZ - they will just release both speeds at once. Next month Intel will paper launch a 1.4 GHZ P4, while AMD and the OEMs do a modest launch into retail of the 1.1 and 1.2GHZ Athlons. AMD will have its volume sales at 900MHZ and 1GHZ - with decent ASPs (actually, for AMD, fantasy fantastic ASPs), while Intel will be selling mostly 800 to 933 PIIIs - at the lowest ASP for its volume products Intel has seen in a long, long time. It's just an unfortunate coincidence, but falling behind AMD just when there is such a stark contrast between less than and more than one GHZ is probably going to be tough on Intel ASPs this fall and winter.
