NTAP--Network Appliance and Everypath Team Up Offering Enhanced Content Delivery Everypath to Utilize Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (iCAP) to Enhance Distribution of Content to Wireless and Interactive TV
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2000-- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content management solutions, and Everypath, Inc., today announced they will collaborate to deliver advanced services to wireless customers. This will enhance the delivery of interactive Internet, intranet, and extranet content to wireless devices and interactive TV. The new services will be developed via the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (iCAP), an open standards-based technology developed by Network Appliance and a consortium of Internet companies.
Network Appliance is coupling iCAP technology with its NetCache(TM) C1100 caching solutions, helping Everypath's customers receive their content when they need it, where they need it, quickly and reliably.
iCAP was founded as a standard protocol for PCs, personal digital assistants, pagers, phones, and other devices to receive data and run applications sent over the Internet. Because these devices have various display screens and network-connection speeds, content providers find it difficult to guarantee that information and applications will be accessible from a given type of device. iCAP has helped to provide a standard way for content to be formatted, cached, and displayed.
``The ability for companies to develop value-added services for any access device such as a PDA, smart phone, PC, or set top box is becoming a key differentiator in improving business performance and customer retention. Simply put, such value-added services is the next big component of the economy,'' said Amit Pandey, senior director of marketing, Content Delivery Business Unit at Network Appliance, Inc. ``Everypath demonstrates how a successful Internet content distribution corporation can improve and extend its applications to meet the increasing demands of its customers.''
``Everypath is pleased to collaborate with Network Appliance on a platform that offers our company a competitive edge by enhancing the Everypath customer experience,'' said David Chan, Vice President of Business Development at Everypath. ``Enabling Everypath to deliver content to an increasingly mobile customer base through an industry standard protocol enhances the services we provide without consuming additional R&D dollars, allowing us to stay focused on our core business.''
