BCE Emergis and HP Team Up to Deliver B2B Online Procurement Solution in U.S.
and Canada

Business Editors

MONTREAL & PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2000--BCE

Emergis Inc. (TSE:IFM.), a leading e-commerce products and solutions
provider, and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced a
strategic alliance to deliver a turnkey version of the EmergisTM Buyer
e-procurement solution to U.S. and Canadian companies.
Mid-market corporate buying organizations will be able to connect
over the Internet with a multitude of suppliers, realizing significant
cost savings for purchased goods, as well as reducing costs related to
time and processing cycles.
The Emergis BuyerTM solution, targeted to mid-size companies, is
based on the Ariba BuyerTM solution, both of which enable companies to
streamline their procurement and internal business processes for time
and cost savings. The solution will include such existing BCE Emergis
capabilities as payment, security, order management and document
exchange and will leverage HP's always-on infrastructure and
professional services for its design and implementation. The two
companies will also co-market this solution throughout U.S. and
Canada.
"Teaming up with HP was a natural extension of our relationship
with Ariba, and is part of our ongoing strategy to extend our presence
in the U.S," said Christian Trudeau, executive vice president and COO
of BCE Emergis. "Our Emergis Buyer solution will benefit from the
reputation and the reliability o

panies to
reach a new level of success in the Internet age."
For mid-market organizations, which are corporations with revenues
under $1 billion, BCE Emergis offers full e-procurement capability on
a cost-effective, shared platform. As a result, clients benefit from
low installation and operational costs, quick application deployment,
solution scalability, high system reliability, and advanced security
features.
The solution is part of BCE Emergis' e-procurement portfolio,
which also includes dedicated platforms for large businesses,
solutions for electronic market builders and operators, as well as
various forms of dynamic trade applications for implementing auction
and exchange marketplaces.
